The Characters
The Tavern - Steven Seagull
So! You want to know about Good āol Steve. Youāre either so drunk that you think Iām someone else or you are the 1/1000 pirate that actually cares about the history of Tortuga. With a bar tab like yours, this story is on the House.
This fine establishment was founded by yours Truly at the founding of Tortuga herself, weird thing about this island, you donāt seem to age.
These walls have seen every secret, every pirate lord, and every ounce of coin that has entered or exited Tortuga.
Now, I want you to look at me. LOOK AT ME! Do I look like a fighter to you? Donāt lie to me.
Exactly. Iām not. So how do I keep all of you folks in line.
Rum. Food and Rum. All of you pirates and captains may act like you own the place and whip your cutlassā around like itās your own personal fight club.
But at the end of the day, you have a tab. A tab that you owe me. That puts you in my pocket.
Iām the one that manages the rum shipments. Iām the one that cooks the food. You may listen to your captains, but Iām the god damn boss whenever you enter this establishment. Now if youāre looking for someone to sail with, Iāve got crew if youāve got coin.

The Shipwright - Chacha
Everybody wants to know about good olā Chacha. I say to them, you donāt need to know Chacha to know he got good ships. But you seem like decent folk.
People think that to build a good ship, you need someone who studies ships. Hogwash, I say! You need someone who knows the sea. The sea is a ships greatest ally or enemy, dependin how you look at it.
Look at the ocean right now! LOOK AT IT! Look how big that body of water is. Whose side do you want to be on? The oceans or the ships. Ocean is a better ally than enemy, and you have to build ships that are nice to her.
If you build an enemy of the ocean, the ocean will swallow it up like a hungry hound starved for days. My old folks hated the ocean. Hated it so much that they built ships that tore into her waters and reefs. Then what happened? Tsunami. Biggest one I ever saw. I hid. Big tree. Lucky me.
Stop looking at the ocean. Iām talking to you. Itās rude to look away from someone speakinā to you. Now, Iāve never touched water a day in my life because who knows whatās under those waters.
Thatās why Iām always drinking rum. Nothing lives in rum. Better that way. Now, show me an ocean of Rum, and thenā¦Weāll have something new to worry about.

The Docks - Bubba
Me? Ohā¦Aināt too much about me that very interesting, boy. Was a small-time pirate under the command of a big time Hoss named Captain Reeds. Reeds was a good captain butā¦well he wasnāt a good person. Made us do things Iād rather not talk about. Got sick and tired of the whole thing and rounded up likeminded folks in the crew, and we had ourselves a little mutiny! Heh. Heh.
After that, I didnāt have much motivation to stick around and travel. Iād seen plenty of the world, and Tortuga was the right kind of mix between peaceful and chaotic for me to settle down. They needed someone who can keep captains in line at the docks, and well, Iād earned that kind of rep in organizing the mutiny of Reeds. So it was a perfect fit. At least, thatās how I think about it.
Sometimes I think about Reeds. Without his instruction and training, I wouldnāt be where I am today. At the same time, I donāt think anything from that man has a touch of goodness in it. But I try my best for Tortuga. Maybe thatās what matters. See, nothing special about me.

The Plunderers Guild - Diego
You think getting to know me will get you in my good graces? Think again, welp. Iāve been gutting little fish like you since I was spawned in this croc-eat-croc world.
What you need to know about me is that I am your paycheck. I am your source of life. Whenever you win, itās because of me. Whenever you lose, you best believe that Iām mad about it. To be a plunderer means to cut, bite, and claw your way out from the gutters of poverty.
Some people suffocate underneath all the pressure. Me? Never. I got comfortable in the muck and grime. Waiting. Watching. You ever heard of the previous leader of this place? No? Well the guild didnāt like Tortuga, too small you see, but the Reaper, yeah causing a few problems back home. I got here early, possession is nine tenths of the law ha!
You got a letter for me? Whatās this, that seal, itās from the guildmaster, whereād you get this?
They are coming.

The Cartographer - Hector
Itās so good to hear that question. Not many people your age care the stories of others let alone mine. My life is a long one. Mostly uninteresting, hence why I started chasing the stories of others. Thatās the beauty of stories. They can bring color and meaning to an otherwise meaningless length of time. On my island, the stories are quite boring. We were always there and now my people are still there.
Me, I was infected with wanderlust. I took to the seas as a stowaway and just listened. Not too many people like to listen, but I do. I have the time. There were so many stories! Some about treasure. Some about people! Sometimes both.
The funny thing about is that there were many stories I heard about the same event but told differently. Does that make one story true and the other not? I donāt think so. I think all stories have a little bit of true and false to them. I like parsing through the words, the voices to find things that no one else knows where to find, because they do not listen.
I pieced together those bits of information and found the lost vaults of Tortuga. Treasure Map anyone?
